Sky Signs Veteran Forward Tamera Young to Multi-Year Deal

“Tamera's blue-collar mentality, and ability to disrupt at multiple positions on the defensive end of the floor, creates opportunities vital to our success,” said Sky Head Coach and General Manager Pokey Chatman. “I am thrilled she has decided to continue her career representing the Chicago Sky.”

Acquired by the Sky from the Atlanta Dream, in exchange for Armintie Price in 2009, Young has spent six seasons with the Sky. Last year, the 6-foot-2 forward set new career highs in several offensive and defensive categories. She shot a personal-best 43.8% from the field to and as one of the Sky’s most versatile players in 2014, Young averaged 27.6 minutes per game at the small forward, power forward and shooting guard positions. At the same time, she tallied a career-best 136 rebounds, 41 more than her previous high. During the 2014 WNBA Playoffs, Young helped the Sky to its first Eastern Conference Championship title, recording 7.2 points and 4.2 rebounds per game while guarding some of the league’s top scorers.

Entering her seventh season in Chicago, fans can expect this Sky veteran to continue to make an impact in 2015. Currently, Young is playing for Sport Recife in Brazil where she is averaging 15.2 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.7 steals.

Watch Young lead the Sky on opening night, June 5 at Allstate Arena when they host the Indiana Fever in a rematch of last year’s Eastern Conference Finals. Prior to tip-off, the team will unveil its 2014 Eastern Conference Championship banner. For more information or to purchase tickets, click here.
